Sharon Gaffka surprises former DfT colleagues with Love Island place

OHMYGOSSIP — New ‘Love Island’ contestant Sharon Gaffka has raised “plenty of eyebrows” at the Department for Transport since she was announced for the 2021 series of the dating show.
The 25-year-old beauty was a civil servant at the Whitehall office working on government policy but quit her job in order to take up her place in the villa.
Sharon – who is from Oxford – did not tell her bosses and colleagues the reason for her departure and they were shocked to see her unveiled as an Islander, however, they hope her appearance on the racy ITV2 show will change the image of the Dft
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was surprising to see the ‘Love Island’ line-up … plenty of eyebrows were raised.
“But everyone thinks the DfT is potholes and bus stops, so it’s great to see a former colleague bringing a bit of glamour to the Department for Transport.”
Sharon worked at the DfT under contract for six months and previous to that position she worked at several other government departments during her seven years as part of the civil service.
Sharon decided to apply for ‘Love Island’ – which kicks off at 9pm on ITV2 next Monday (28.06.21) – because she is the only one left in her friendship circle who is still single and not in a committed relationship.
She said: “It’s been a bit of a running joke between my friendship group for a while that I should apply, probably because I’m the most outrageous one out of the group.
“But also because of COVID and the lockdown, I’m the only single one in my friendship group. They’re either married or planning on getting married. I don’t want to be the only one in the group chat that is single anymore!
“I have this thing where if something doesn’t work out with one person, I’ll try and go for the other extreme to see if that works out.
“I tend to date someone who is taller than me even though my last long-term partner he was actually someone who was shorter than me.”
