Nick Hewer: Anne Robinson will find it tough on Countdown
OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Hewer has warned Anne Robinson she will find it “tough” on ‘Countdown’.
The former ‘The Weakest Link’ host will make her debut as the new presenter of the Channel 4 show on Monday (28.06.21) after replacing ex-‘Apprentice’ assistant Nick, and he found that filming dragged at times.
Speaking about why he quit the show, he said: “For the first time in my life I’d stayed at home for a length at time, and I suddenly realised what a great place we have.
“I bought a dog, and I suddenly thought, ‘Why are you doing this [‘Countdown’]?
“Because it’s tough, and Anne will find out.
“It’s a tough old gig that one. Five shows a day. Show four, day two and you think, ‘Oh no, I’ve got one more, and another day.’ ”
However, Nick, 77, believes Anne will be “terrific” on the show.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain, he added: “She’ll be terrific. She’s a real professional, and she’s a great broadcaster.
“She knows exactly what she’s doing. I was stumbling around for 10 years.”
But Anne, 76, hasn’t lost much of her no-nonsense approach, which was made famous on ‘The Weakest Link’ with her abrupt “goodbye” to exiting contestants.
In a pre-recorded ‘GMB’ video message to her predecessor, she said: “Hello Nick, I’m sitting in your chair but they’ve had to put a platform behind me because I’m much shorter and dumpier than you are.
“I know that you were looking at that clock for 10 years and eating hundreds of Ripple chocolate bars.
“I don’t eat those. I have calorie-free food in the fridge.
“Have a wonderful retirement. I don’t know how long I’ll go on but as you know, women do last longer in jobs than men.”
