Anne Robinson: People need to toughen up

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Robinson thinks people need to toughen up.
The 76-year-old TV star used to jokingly poke fun at people in all sorts of ways during her time as the host of ‘The Weakest Link’, but she admits that her past behaviour wouldn’t be tolerated on TV nowadays.
She explained: “It’s true that in today’s woke climate, you couldn’t say half of those things.”
Anne was a successful newspaper journalist before she became a well-known TV presenter.
And she thinks that her background in the newspaper industry helped to develop her strong personality.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Newspaper journalism taught me everything I needed to know. You had to think on your feet, work quickly and you couldn’t cry. All of that I’m very grateful for.”
Anne believes having a “fearless” attitude has been one of the keys to her success.
Asked how she’s managed to achieve so much, she said: “Being a bit clever, a bit funny, a bit fearless. And disobeying the rules.
“Academically, I never achieved anything because I couldn’t be bothered. Then you find that, once you leave school, it’s a great advantage not to have conformed. No one has … made you the same as everybody else.”
Anne is now set to replace Nick Hewer as the new host of ‘Countdown’ and she’s already relishing the challenge.
The veteran presenter also revealed she’s planning to take a softer approach with the contestants.
She explained: “With the ‘Weakest Link’ I never spoke to contestants before the show – I was on the podium, with a stern face, to create the atmosphere.
“With ‘Countdown’, I have a chat with them, to stop them thinking it’s going to be very cruel.”
