Ulrika Jonsson wants to own her body

OHMYGOSSIP — Ulrika Jonsson wants to love and “own” her body for all its flaws.
The television presenter admits she can’t avoid the “excess skin”, “cellulite” and her “ever-decreasing bum” but she is trying to embrace her body for what it is.
She shared: “I cannot avoid seeing the excess skin, the cellulite on the back of my legs, the diminished muscle on my forearm, my ever-decreasing bum and my beloved varicose veins which I’ve had operated on no fewer than three times. But as my best friend Laura physically held my hand when I pressed the “go” button on Instagram, I felt I had to accept and take ownership of this nearly 54-year-old body. Own it. It is what it is. It’s given life to four beautiful, ungrateful children.”
And Ulrika – who has Malcolm, 13, Martha, 17, Bo, 21 and Cameron, 26 – heaped praise on her body, which she admits has been through a lot including childbirth, operations and invasive treatments.
Writing in her column for The Sun newspaper, she added: “I treat my body as a vessel for food and rum. It has carried four children for a total of three years. It has breastfed and gone up and down in size more often than a tart’s knickers. It has suffered operations and many invasive treatments.”
Ulrika had previously called for the “constant shaming” of women’s figures to end.
She said: “Only the other day one of my Instagram followers worried about me because I looked ‘very slim’. It was a caring enough remark and I responded cordially but it brought to the surface all the derogatory, disparaging and unflattering comments I’ve endured over the years. As a woman, I know I’m not alone and as I grow older, the landscape is fraught with even more mines of insult and shame.
“Now, I have to ensure I don’t look as if I’ve let myself go. Not at my age. But the constant shaming and vilifying of women’s figures and sizes has to end. Men are certainly not under the same scrutiny.”
