Kay Burley: ‘I was an idiot for breaking lockdown rules’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kay Burley says she was an “idiot” for breaking COVID-19 lockdown rules.
In December, the 60-year-old broadcaster was found to be infringing Tier 2 COVID rules with her birthday celebration and although she later apologised for her “error of judgement”, explaining that she “inadvertently broke the rules”, Kay was suspended by Sky News.
She told The Daily Mail newspaper: “I thought I was COVID-compliant. I wasn’t. I made a mistake.
“I was an idiot and I let myself and my viewers down. I’m sorry for what I did and for any heartache I caused the loyal friends with me at the time. I was appropriately sanctioned.”
Kay was taken off-air for six months, on full pay, and returned to screens earlier this month.
She said: “I paid for my mistake; quite rightly, too. My viewers told me how frustrated they were with me and they were right to do so. With time, the mood music changed and my viewers wanted me back.”
Kay revealed her pal Piers Morgan was “kind and supportive” during her time off-air and she defended him for quitting ‘Good Morning Britain’ after refusing to apologise for saying he believed Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was lying during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Kay said: “He’s a very loyal, decent man and he’s convinced his view of Harry and Meghan is appropriate. He stood up for his beliefs and it’s cost him his job. But whoever bags him next will be very lucky as he will take his audience with him.”
