Dominic Brunt directing thriller film The Taking

OHMYGOSSIP — Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has begun directing a new thriller film. The actor, who plays Paddy Kirk on the ITV soap, will also act as a producer on The Taking, described as an “empowering female revenge thriller”.

The film stars Victoria Smurfit (About a Boy) and Brunt’s real-life wife Joanne Mitchell, while the screenplay has been written by Emmerdale writer Paul Roundell.

The Taking tells the story of market stall holders Bex (Smurfit) and Dawn (Mitchell) who are pushed to the limit after accepting a loan from vicious loan shark Jeremy (Jonathan Slinger) in order to open their own upmarket cafe.

The project is a co-production between Mitchell Brunt and Metrodome International.

Of the film, Brunt said: “I feel honoured and excited to be continuing the successful and creative working relationship with Metrodome. For me, The Taking represents a huge and ambitious leap forward.”

Filming is currently taking place in West Yorkshire, and is due to wrap on May 18.
