BBC bosses are keen for more Line of Duty following the success of S6 finale

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC is keen for Jed Mercurio to continue with another series of ‘Line of Duty’.
Following the success of the season six finale of the hit cop series, which pulled in a record 12.8 million viewers on Sunday (02.05.21), BBC bosses will discuss the show’s future with the showrunner.
The BBC’s Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore said: ‘“Line of Duty’ has kept the nation guessing for the last seven weeks, so it’s no surprise the jaw dropping finale set a ratings record.
“I’m looking forward to having a conversation with the team about where we go next and what the future of the series might be.”
Jed reacted to the stellar viewing figures and admitted he was “honoured and flattered”.
He wrote: “We’re honoured and flattered by the viewing figures for #LineofDuty6. We knew attempting to explore the real nature of corruption in our society wouldn’t appeal to everyone, but we do sincerely thank you all for watching. It’s been our privilege to share your Sunday nights. (sic)”
Meanwhile, Martin Compston claimed the cast have vowed to get matching tattoos to commemorate the show reaching more than 12 million viewers.
The 36-year-old actor starred as Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in the drama, and took to Twitter on Monday (03.05.21) to thank fans for their support following the end of the sixth series.
He revealed that himself, series creator Jed, Detective Inspector Kate Fleming actress Vicky McClure, and Superintendent Ted Hastings star Adrian Dunbar have agreed on getting tattoos that read ‘AC12million’ in honour of the record-breaking success.
Martin wrote: “Hey folks now the madness is slightly dying down just want to thank everybody who reached out about last night and the series as a whole, we’ve truly been blown away by the reaction and love for the show we’re proud of it. Fully understand it wasn’t the ‘urgent exit’ type ending some anticipated but we appreciate you sticking with us
“Felt many emotions from excitement and anxiety at the hype to relief that it’s over. Now I just feel immense pride our show that started on Wednesday’s on BBC2 has just smashed every overnight drama record since they began.
“Finally myself, Vicky, Adrian and Jed made an agreement in the inconceivable and ridiculous scenario we ever got twelve million viewers we would get ‘AC12million’ tattoos. We’ll see who’s good to their word…… (sic)”
‘AC12million’ is a reference to the number of viewers the show garnered, as well as AC-12, the name of the Anti-Corruption unit within the police in which the show is set.
