Alex Scott ‘replacing Dan Walker on Football Focus’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Scott has reportedly signed up to host ‘Football Focus’.
The 36-year-old retired footballer – who appears on ‘Match of the Day 2’ – is said to be in line to become the first woman to front the show since it started in 1974, and she will take over from Dan Walker on the BBC One lunchtime show when he steps down at the end of the current season.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “Alex was deemed the perfect fit for the role. After her stint on ‘Strictly’ in 2019, her popularity went through the roof.
“Not only is she a great broadcaster, her knowledge of the game is outstanding.
“Alex is going to be a huge asset to the ‘Football Focus’ team. Everyone is so excited to have her on board.”
Alex retired in 2017 and has since worked for the BBC and Sky.
Meanwhile, Dan – who joined the show in 2009 – announced last week he would be stepping down.
He said: “I’m so proud of the job we’ve done, the changes we’ve made and issues we’ve looked at while the football landscape changed immeasurably.
“Having said that, after 12 years it’s time for someone else to take the reigns.”
Meanwhile, the Beeb has confirmed an official announcement regarding Dan’s replacement is to be made “in due course”.
A spokesman commented: “An announcement on the new presenter will be made in due course.”
BBC bosses have recently been screen testing comedians – including the likes of Jack Whitehall, Jason Manford, Mo Gilligan and Jon Richardson – in the hunt for Sue Barker’s replacement on ‘A Question of Sport’ in a bid to “attract younger viewers”.
According to reports, they have also hired executive Pete Ogden – who was behind ‘Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ – to bring some additional “glamour” to the revamped programme.
And while Alex was previously linked to the role of Sue’s replacement, she is now expected to become a team captain, as Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell are also departing the programme.
