Alex Beresford: I’ve experienced relentless racism since Piers Morgan clash

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Beresford has been subjected to “relentless racism” since his on-screen row with Piers Morgan.
The 40-year-old presenter clashed with Piers on ‘Good Morning Britain’ in the aftermath of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all TV interview, and Alex has recently stepped back from social media due to the abuse he’s received.
He explained: “I have been subjected to relentless racism myself on social media.
“I haven’t announced it (like the former Arsenal player Thierry Henry did this week when he publicly quit social media, in response to anonymous racist bullying) but I have been forced to step away from Twitter and Facebook myself, because it was getting too much. I am a strong person, but I am not made of steel.”
Alex thinks it’s important that Brits feel comfortable enough to have an honest conversation about the issue of racism.
The TV star also accepts that people might just have to learn to agree to disagree about the problem.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I see hope in younger people who in general feel much more comfortable talking about issues of racism, whereas older generations are less accepting even though it was clearly more prevalent in their day. Perhaps if you’ve never experienced it you can’t see it, or addressing it would be like opening up a can of worms that can’t be put back in.
“Social media has clearly had an impact on our ability to engage in open discourse and listen to opposing views. In order to move the conversation on we will have to have those difficult conversations. Part of that process might just have to be agreeing to disagree.”
Last month, Piers revealed he quit ‘Good Morning Britain’ after ITV bosses gave him an ultimatum.
The outspoken broadcaster abruptly quit the show following the negative comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex in her interview with Oprah Winfrey, but looking back on the controversy, Piers revealed he simply followed his gut instinct after being asked to apologise.
He said: “ITV executives suggested to me that I should now issue an apology to calm things down.
“But I don’t believe Meghan, so why would I apologise?”
