Dancing Ice to be cut short after injuries and COVID-19 impact

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Dancing On Ice’ bosses have been forced to cut the series short due to injuries and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Producers working on the ITV celebrity figure skating competition have brought the final forward to March 14 – rather than March 21 – due to a lack of contestants after injuries and two COVID-19 diagnoses.
An insider told The Sun Online: “Everybody is absolutely gutted that it’s come to this. But ultimately, due to injuries and shooting the show during a pandemic, they’ve been left with no choice.
“They can’t compromise on the quality of the programme, so in order to keep it to the high standards that everyone expects, they’ve decided to trim the series by a show.
“It means they’ll get to give all the skaters and celebrities a proper semi-final and a grand finale they all deserve.”
It’s said the team didn’t take the decision “lightly”, but there have been “untold headaches” regarding the production this year.
The source added: “Other shows have shot during the pandemic, but doing such a big programme in the very height of the crisis, with the uncertainty that it brings has caused untold headaches.
“It’s not something ITV have decided to do lightly but they think it’s the right decision.”
A number of stars were forced to end their time on the show early.
The latest was Jason Donovan, who was forced to exit the contest after suffering from a continuing back injury.
ITV said in a recent statement: “Jason Donovan has brought us so much joy with his performances on Dancing On Ice – from Priscilla through to the tango. Our thanks go to Jason and Alex for being so wonderful and committed to the series. We’re sorry to see them leave and we wish Jason a speedy recovery.”
Previously, Denise Van Outen and Billie Faiers quit due to injury whilst Rufus Hound and Joe-Warren Plant left after testing positive for coronavirus.
