Kevin Clifton would return to Strictly Come Dancing if he could be in a same-sex pairing

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Clifton would only return to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ if he could be in a same-sex dance couple.
The 38-year-old professional dancer left the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition last year in order to pursue a career in musicals, but after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down theatres, he considered taking on the job again.
However, sources have now said he chose not to make an appearance in the 2020 series of the show because the “opportunity wasn’t there” for him to try something different, such as being partnered with a male celebrity.
An insider told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Biz on Sunday column: “Feelers were put out about Kev returning to the show, but bosses have decided that they’re happy with their cast and the time has passed.
“Kevin would have gone back if he could have been partnered with a man, as that’s something that’s never been done before. But the opportunity wasn’t there, so he is focusing on different opportunities.”
Last year, ‘Strictly’ made history by casting its first-ever same-sex dance couple in the form of Olympic boxer Nicola Adams and professional dancer Katya Jones.
However, the pair weren’t able to properly compete in the show, as they were forced to drop out when Katya tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, outspoken judge Craig Revel Horwood recently admitted he missed having Kevin on the show, as the pair were good sparring partners.
He said last month: “I do miss the people who are lined up against me because it makes such good TV and is a bit of banter – and Kevin always provided some entertainment.
“When he did his final dance ever on the show he thought it should have been a ten, and I gave him an eight.”
And Kevin himself also admitted he regretted quitting when he did, especially in the wake of the global health crisis.
Speaking last Autumn, he said: “I think if I’ve learned anything it’s that you never close the door. You just don’t know how things are going to go. I thought I was going to be on stage all year and all of a sudden that’s not happening any more.”
