Friday Night Dinner documentary to air this spring but ‘no plans’ for series 7

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Friday Night Dinner’ documentary is set to air later this year – but bosses are “not planning” to make another series for the time being.
Channel 4 is said to have given the green light for a 90-minute documentary about the popular sitcom this spring, to mark the show’s 10th anniversary, but Big Talk Productions CEO Kenton Allen has hinted a seventh season doesn’t look too likely at the moment.
Speaking about ‘Friday Night Dinner’ creator Robert Popper’s plans, Kenton told Deadline: “I don’t think Robert wants to write a series where they bring their wives and children around.
“Never say never, but I suspect that’s probably it for the time being.
“You never know. For the time being, we’re not planning to make any more ‘Friday Night Dinner’.”
Interviews for the documentary are currently being shot.
Series six came to an end with main characters Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny (Tom Rosenthal) discovering their girlfriends, who were portrayed by Rebecca Humphries and Pearl Mackie respectively, were both pregnant, much to the lads’ surprise.
This comes after Robert admitted in March last year there were “no plans” to end the series.
Speaking in response to Simon saying he thought the sixth series will “probably” be the programme’s final season, Robert explained: “That’s news to me. Simon said it feels like it could be the last one. Well, I’ve no plans to end it now.
“You know, whenever you make a TV series, you always think, ‘Well, that’s probably our lot’ – you never really know.
“But obviously, the show has now become successful, which is lovely.
“So you’d like to think they’d do it again. I think they would. But it’s also down to me, if I want to do it again. So I always have to think, ‘Do I want to do it again or not?’
“I love writing it. So who knows? I haven’t got a thought like, ‘I want to end it.’ ”
The show – which also stars Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, and Mark Heap – follows the antics of the Goodman family as they get together every Friday night for a family dinner.
