Anneke Wills finds Doctor Who too scary to watch

OHMYGOSSIP — Anneke Wills doesn’t watch ‘Doctor Who’ anymore because she finds it too scary.
The 79-year-old star – who played one of the Doctor’s companions during the 60s – hasn’t watched the show since Jodie Whittaker landed the main role as she finds it “frightening”, although she’s a big fan of the actress.
Anneke – who was the companion to the first-ever Doctor William Hartnell and his successor Patrick Troughton – said: “I have to admit that I’ve fallen off since Jodie has come in.
“It’s nothing to do with her – I think she’s wonderful and great – but this is all part of the new ‘Who’. It’s too fast, too furious, a bit too frightening. It’s too much for me.”
Anneke was excited when Jodie was handed the coveted role, but she has ultimately found the BBC sci-fi show to be too scary.
In fact, the actress admitted she tends to be in bed when the programme airs.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “I loved David Tennant as the Doctor – he was a bit special – and Peter Capaldi was lovely too.
“I loved the moment when Jodie became the Doctor. I thought, ‘It’s a woman …  brilliant!’
“I was convinced that the time was right and we definitely should have a woman.
“Then I watched the first few episodes and thought, ‘Oh Christ, this is frightening. I think I’ll go to bed.’ And that’s it, I’ve gone to bed at half past six!”
Jodie, 38, joined the long-running sci-fi series in 2017, and speaking about her long-term replacement, Anneke suggested it could be a transgender star.
Asked about the possibility, she said: “I’m sure that would be the next evolving. ‘Doctor Who’ will always evolve, it will never die. If you’ve fallen off, so be it.”
