Brooke Kinsella: It’s heart-breaking my daughter won’t meet my brother

OHMYGOSSIP — Brooke Kinsella finds it “heart-breaking” that her daughter will never get the chance to meet her late brother Ben Kinsella.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress’ sibling was killed in an unprovoked attack in London in 2008 aged 16, and she is devastated that her newborn child, Elsie – who she welcomed into the world in September – won’t be able to meet her uncle.
She said: “It’s a double-edged sword. Being Elsie’s mum is everything I’ve ever wanted, but on the other hand I can’t help but think about everyone who isn’t here to meet her.
“For me, the main person missing out is Ben. Obviously I love Elsie more than anything and having loved Ben so much as well it’s heart-breaking to know the two of them will never get the chance to meet.”
Brooke had a good feeling her pregnancy test would come back positive because the code on it was “BEN”, and she thanked her brother when the line appeared.
She explained: “I was at my mum’s house when we found out and the most incredible thing happened. All pregnancy tests have codes on them and when I opened my one I saw that the first three letters of the code were BEN. I got complete goosebumps all over and had this huge smile on my face.
“It gave me such a good feeling about it all. Usually you have to wait a couple of minutes for the result, but in this instance it went positive straight away. I just remember saying, ‘Thank you, Ben.’ I’ve still got the test now and I’ll treasure it forever.”
Since becoming a mother, Brooke – who played Kelly Taylor on the BBC soap between 2001 and 2004 – has felt a different perspective of what her mum and dad went through when they lost Ben, admitting her parents have become her heroes “even more now”.
She added to OK! magazine: “What’s really hit me now that I’m a parent is what my mum and dad went through losing a child. I lost my brother and my best friend that night.
“Losing a child … I never knew what that pain was and now the thought of it sometimes creeps up on me and I need to put a block on it.
“I’m only six weeks in so I can’t fall apart just yet, but I’ve had my moments. My mum and dad have always been my heroes, but even more so now.”
