Ian Bartholomew wins big at Inside Soap Awards 2020

OHMYGOSSIP — Ian Bartholomew was the big winner at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday (23.11.20), taking home three trophies.
The 66-year-old actor walked away as the most decorated star after the first-ever virtual Inside Soap Awards, which was streamed on the Inside Soap Facebook page and Inside Soap YouTube channel on Monday.
Ian, who plays Geoff Metcalfe in ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’, was named Best Actor and Best Villain, and also took home the trophy for Best Show-Stopper, which he won alongside Shelley King – who plays his on-screen wife Yasmeen Metcalfe – for the scenes in which Yasmeen fought back against her abusive husband.
Speaking about playing a villain, Ian said: “For me, witnessing Shelley crumbling as Yasmeen, and watching this character that I was playing destroy her in front of me was actually really quite upsetting. I felt bad doing all those things, but we both wanted to do it as well and as truthfully as we could.”
And when asked about the public reaction, he added: “I did see the episode of ‘Gogglebox’ where they watched it – they were all delighted that Geoff got some kind of comeback!”
Whilst Shelley said of the reaction she received: “People were shouting at me from their cars, going, ‘Yeah, good on ya, Yas!’ It was lovely.”
Despite Ian taking home three gongs for ‘Corrie’, it was rival BBC soap ‘EastEnders’ that reigned triumphant overall, with a total of five gongs taken home by stars of the show, including the prestigious ‘Best Soap’ accolade.
‘EastEnders’ star Jessica Plummer was named Best Actress, whilst Lorraine Stanley took home the trophy for Funniest Performance in her role as Karen Taylor, and Kellie Bright and Danny Dyer’s characters Linda and Mick Carter were given the title of Best Partnership.
The soap also won the award for Feel-Good Moment, which was awarded for the scenes in which Walford celebrated Pride.
Elsewhere, ‘Neighbours’ was named Best Daytime Soap, whilst Stefan Dennis was the Best Daytime Star, and Cathy Shipton won the gong for Best Drama Star.
