Kelly Clarkson hits back at management group amid legal row

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Clarkson has accused her management company of violating the California Labor Code.
The 38-year-old pop star has hit back at the firm – which is owned by Narvel Blackstock, the dad of her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock – after she had a lawsuit filed against her in September amid claims she owes more than $1.4 million in unpaid commissions.
In response, Kelly alleged that Starstruck Management Group violated the California Labor Code for “procuring, offering, promising, or attempting to procure employment or engagements” for her without first obtaining a talent agency license.
The ‘Behind These Hazel Eyes’ hitmaker – who filed for divorce from her husband earlier this year – has therefore insisted that her agreements with the company be declared “void and unenforceable”.
However, Starstruck’s attorney Bryan Freedman has hit back at the pop star, saying her claims ignore “the fact that Kelly had her own licensed talent agency [Creative Artists Agency] at all times”.
Speaking to People, he added: “While Starstruck Management Group provided talent management services on her behalf, it did so at all times that CAA was her agency of record.
“It is unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings.”
Kelly – who has River, six, and Remington, four, with Brandon – launched divorce proceedings in June, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.
However, she also previously admitted that their romance was unlike anything she’d ever experienced.
Kelly said: “When I met Brandon, I wasn’t looking for a friend. I have a lot of great friends! I was looking for a lover.
“I had never found someone I was truly passionate about, who I wanted to stay in bed with all day. The fact that I did, well … I was going to latch on and take advantage of that.”
