OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Whittaker thought she had “done it wrong” when she first appeared in ‘Doctor Who’. The 38-year-old actress became the first-ever female doctor in the history of the sci-fi show in 2017, but Jodie has admitted to having some doubts about her initial appearance on the iconic programme. She shared: “When I saw the episode, where Peter’s [Capaldi] Doctor regenerates into myself – that was the first time and we were midway through shooting – that was the first time in a long time that I’d been watching it, because everything I’d been doing was reading … but I hadn’t watched it to try and give myself that freedom to step on set. “And then when I watch that, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve done it wrong. I’ve done it wrong’ and we were only like six weeks in and I had seven months left.” Despite her concerns, Jodie was reassured by people on set that she had the freedom to approach the iconic role in her own distinctive way. The actress – who has also starred in ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘Broadchurch’ – is relieved she’s not having to conform to another person’s interpretation of the character. She told ‘Finest Hour’ on BBC Radio 6 Music: “I came in to work, I was like, ‘You should have told me, I’ve been doing it wrong!’ “They said no, this is the point like you know – you aren’t supposed to be doing what someone else did, but all the energy of the Doctor and all the references and the Whovian kind of pearls are in there. “And you then take it and run with it. And actually it’s much more freeing.”
