Bill Bailey ‘can’t go near’ son due to Strictly rules

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Bailey “can’t go near” his teenage son because of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ rules.
The 55-year-old comic has been partnered with Oti Mabuse so although he is allowed close contact with her and his wife Kristin, they all have to keep their distance from 16-year-old Dax because of the risk he presents from mixing with others at school.
He said: “I have to be in a bubble with my dance partner and my wife. Kristin won’t be able to go out and we can’t be near our son, Dax, because of his potential exposure at school.
“When he comes home he’ll eat separately from us. He thinks it’s hilarious, but if I make any progress beyond the first round, then there’s a fair chance he’ll go feral.”
And Bill admitted he’s very keen to progress way beyond the first round, but thinks he’ll need a bit of help with the song choices in order to do so.
He admitted: “All comedians are competitive. Oh, we’re terrible! A game of cards. A drinking session. It’s a battle. I am trying to persuade the powers that be to have a heavy-metal round. If I can dance to Rammstein or Anthrax I’m in with a chance. No disrespect to the other contestants, but I don’t want to be humiliated in front of a former home secretary – who knows what she might have stashed in her locker?”
The former ‘Black Books’ star discussed the so-called “curse” of the show with Kristin when he signed up – but they’re not worried.
He said: “If there are any cracks in your relationship, a suggestive rumba on ‘Strictly’ will supposedly find you out.
“My wife’s attitude was: ‘Fine. If that’s what happens. Go.’ We’ve been together over 30 years and I’ve done films, plays, dramas, and it can be intense and intimate work, but essentially you are pretending. This is no different, so I’m confident there’ll be no funny business.
“If ‘Strictly’ turns your head, there was something wrong with your relationship anyway.”
But Bill can understand why so many relationships have developed between celebrities and their dance partners.
He told Times Weekend: “I’ve been researching dance. And, frankly, I’m not surprised there’s a ‘Strictly’ curse because, in evolutionary terms, dance is a function of sexual selection. It’s a mating display.
“In ‘Strictly’ the winner receives a glitter ball, but the prize really should be a chance to select the best mate and pass on your genes. I’m sure that’s against the BBC charter, though.”
