Sophie Gradon’s mum pays tribute

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Gradon’s mum has paid an emotional tribute to mark her late daughter’s birthday.
The ‘Love Island’ star – who took her own life in 2018 – would have celebrated her 35th birthday on Monday (26.10.20), and to mark the occasion, her mum Deborah shared a picture of Sophie smiling as she rode a horse.
She wrote on Twitter: “You didn’t want to leave us, You didn’t want to die
You wanted the pain to stop.
“Happy celestial birthday Darling Sophie. I love you and this is how I remember you. Always happy, always smiling.”
Sophie took part in the second series of ‘Love Island’ where she made history by deciding to couple up with Katie Salmon, but they called it quits shortly after.
She was found dead at her parents’ house two years after she appeared on the ITV2 dating show.
A year later, Mike Thalassitis – who took part in the third series – took his own life, and host Caroline Flack was found dead in her London flat earlier this year.
Following news of Caroline’s passing, Deborah called for the reality show to be axed.
She said at the time: “I want ‘Love Island’ taken off the air. How many more families must be destroyed like this? There’s our family, there’s Mike’s family and now there’s Caroline’s family.”
Sophie’s mum claimed ITV didn’t reach out to her family after Sophie took her own life.
She added: “The question that haunts me is whether they could have done more to help her. I feel they owed Caroline and our daughter the same duty of care when they left the show.”
