Staged commissioned for second series with David Tennant and Michael Sheen

OHMYGOSSIP — David Tennant and Michael Sheen are returning for a second series of ‘Staged’.
The duo have signed on for a new run of the popular BBC One show, which follows the cast of a West End production who have been furloughed due to coronavirus, but they continue to rehearse in lockdown.
The upcoming episodes will see the two actors navigating their ‘new normal’ at home with their families, while also trying to tackle the world of ‘virtual Hollywood’.
Michael Sheen said: “It’s been so great to see how much people enjoyed the first series. Seemed like the laughs were much appreciated.
“It made us really excited about taking it further and going in some surprising and hopefully enjoyable directions this time.”
Georgia Tennant – who returns alongside Anna Lundberg, Lucy Eaton, Nina Sosanya and Simon Evans – added: “The prospect of getting my husband back into employment alongside the divine Ben Schwartz and the hairy, Welsh legend that is Michael Sheen all makes me very happy to be back for series two!”
Ben – a new addition to the regular cast – will play the assistant to David and Michae’s American agent.
In a press release, BBC teased: “The series hopes to capture our shared feelings of frustration and confusion at a world not quite ready to re-open.
“Moments that promise normality dashed before they can take hold. The tantalising prospect of comfort kept at bay.
The show was created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, and the former also writes and directs the project.
The first series followed the latest government guidelines on coronavirus to ensure the cast remained safely apart using a combination of self-shooting and video conferencing technology.
At the time, Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content – said: “It’s so important that the BBC provides moments of humour and light relief and this mischievous idea shows what great sports Michael and David are.”
