EastEnders confirm two positive coronavirus tests

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ has confirmed two positive cases of coronavirus at Elstree Studios.
The BBC has revealed the two members of the soap’s team are self-isolating at home, but production will not be impacted and the broadcaster won’t reveal whether they were cast or crew.
In a statement, a spokesperson told MailOnline: “We can confirm that two members of the ‘EastEnders’ team have tested positive for coronavirus and they are now self-isolating at home following the latest government guidelines.
“We have rigorous protocols in place to manage Covid-19 as the safety of all those involved in the production is paramount.”
Staff have been regularly tested for Covid-19 since production resumed on June 29, after filming was suspended in March due to the UK lockdown.
BBC bosses have included aspects of the pandemic in ‘EastEnders’ storylines to help mirror society.
Producer Jon Sen previously said: “I think it’s the responsibility of a soap to reflect what’s going on in greater society and the seismic shifts that happened in the country.
“It’s kind of business as usual, but with a Covid twist.”
However, to ensure the team are following the government’s guidelines, bosses have enlisted the help of actors’ family members to play extras.
Jon explained: “Our greatest challenge is that we have several family units, that’s the nature of ‘EastEnders’ and soap, and families who would be in the same household, so not at two-metre distances, but obviously they are played by actors who are obeying social distancing, so there’s a huge challenge at the heart of it.
“For those really crucial moments where two characters kiss we’ve actually invited the real-life partners of the actors on to the set to be able to cheat those kind of moments.”
