Duke of Kent makes first public appearance since stroke

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Duke of Kent made his first public appearance after suffering a stroke on Sunday (14.04.13) when he paraded with the Scots Guards.

Britain’s Duke of Kent has made his first public appearance since suffering a stroke. The duke – cousin of Queen Elizabeth – paraded with the Scots Guards down London’s Mall on Sunday (14.04.13) as part of their Regimental Remembrance Sunday Service at the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks.

The 77-year-old royal looked in good health as he resumed his role as Colonel of the Regiment for the march.

He graduated from Sandhurst in 1955 with the title of Second Lieutenant in the Royal Scots Greys, proceeding to serve a military career of 21 years with his regiment at home and overseas.

He has been the president of the Stroke Association for more than 20 years and was rushed into hospital last month after suffering a lapse of his own.

The charity’s chief Jon Barrick appreciates the support from the royal, even during his ill-health, and believes he has always shown “tremendous support and dedication” to the cause.

The duke is the son of the late Prince George, the fourth son of the queen’s grandfather King George V.

He is best known as president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and presents the Wimbledon trophies each summer.
