Ant and Dec reflecting on 30 year career with special virtual event

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly will reflect on their career in television during an online charity event.
The TV duo – who first starred together on ‘Byker Grove’ back in 1989 and went on to co-host the likes of ‘SMTV Live’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ and ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ – are set to look back on their three decades in the industry to promote their upcoming book ‘Once Upon A Tyne’.
In a post on Instagram, they wrote: “Seeing as we can’t see you all face to face with a real life book tour, we thought why not have a ‘virtual’ natter instead?!
“Chatting and sharing stories from #OnceUponATyne and our 30 years in telly, and we’d love you to join us.
“@SantanderUK are proud sponsors of the event in aid of @PrincesTrust.”
Earlier this year, Ant & Dec had to present ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ without a live studio audience because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Last month, the Geordie pair apologised for “impersonating people of colour” in historic episodes of the hit ITV show.
In a statement shared to Twitter, the duo wrote: “During past episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway we impersonated people of colour in the undercover segment of the show.
“We realise that this was wrong and want to say that we are sincerely sorry to everyone that was offended.”
Ant and Dec went on to say they “purposely stopped” impersonating people of colour “several years ago”, and have made sure all clips involving the sketches have been taken down from services including the ITV Hub and the show’s YouTube channel.
They added: “We purposely stopped doing this several years ago and certainly would not make these sketches today.
“We had already taken steps to ensure footage was taken down, and have again recently confirmed with ITV that these segments, and any other historical content that could cause offence, does not appear on either the ITV Hub or the Saturday Night Takeaway YouTube channel.”
