Miss Earth England 2012 Zahida Begum´s interview for MissEarth.tv

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I will create a video to inform children of all age about the importance and benefits of recycling now and in the future. As Miss Earth I would hopefully be a role model for children around the world and be more influential than their teachers or parents.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
Despite the diverse religion and culture in England everyone is treated equally and everyone has respect for one another. Although there is a small group of people who support groups like the English Defense League (EDL) and run protests to get people who do not have white skin out of the country I believe they do not represent the country but only themselves. However even with things like this taking place people still respect each others ways and views and make the country a good place to live in. Everyone is entitled to free education and medical benefits, to give everyone the opportunity to succeed in life. There are some countries in the world where children don’t have these opportunities so they do not have a chance learn about the world like we do. I would like to promote equal rights regardless of their cultures, race or sex to give everyone equal education. This means that England can make a bigger impact on other countries while making the world a more sustainable place.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
In and out of care due to domestic violence.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I have learned to respect people regardless of who they are because I would want to be treated the same way. I have learned to forgive people no matter how hard it is because everyone makes mistakes and people deserve second chances.

What is your most memorable moment?
The passing away of my grandma passed away when I was 12 years old made a big impact on my life because my lifestyle improved under the care and support of social workers in many ways. Because of them I gained the confidence to enter pageants.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
Wind turbines at sea direct stronger and steadier winds so off shore wind farms deliver higher power than on shore wind farms. England is a small island so we can position wind turbines around properly to benefit enough areas.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
It’s not just for now, it’s for the future of the earth and our children!
