Miss Earth Philippines 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz’s interview for MissEarth.tv

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
There are a lot of things we can do for our environment, but the best thing we can actually do is to promote environmental awareness to our people, and especially to our children who are our future. School tours, seminars about the current situation of our environment and more tree planting activities to make people realize its importance.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
The Philippines is home to multiple cultures and traditions. We are also the pearl of the orient, an enchanted archipelago, a beautiful tropical country with fascinating landscapes, a forests and the most colorful sunsets. We are very abundant in natural resources. We are very proud to have one of the best beaches in the world such as Boracay and Palawan that is definitely worth visiting. It truly is more fun in the Philippines because of the wonderful destinations, and one more vital or essential thing on why I can say we are a very good place for tourist, is because of our people. Filipinos are the most kind, friendly and hospitable people in the world worth being proud of.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I had a very happy childhood. I was a very happy and energetic little girl! I was pretty much friends with everyone. Also, I was an honor student and a teacher’s pet. My hair, which was light blonde at that age, eventually grew to Ash blonde/brown.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Enjoy every bit of it. Never be in a rush to grow up.

What is your most memorable moment?
We would celebrate every Christmas in our home and the family would be complete. It has always been tradition to have turkey– really good turkey, prepared by my mom! Also, when I was 9 years old, my mom threw me a huge Tweety Bird birthday party! Everything was Tweety Bird, down to the cake, clay pots, and loot bags!

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
The year 2012 I believe, is a time for positive change. It’s time to put our foot down when it comes to conserving and preserving our natural resources. I will stand as a strong leader and role model to educate, inform and spread awareness, not only for ourselves but also, of course, for the future generations.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
Turn off your lights at home when not in use. Opt for the electric fan when it is not too warm instead of the AC. Walk!
