Miss Earth Slovak Republic 2012 Martina Gresova’s interview for MissEarth.tv

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
We are humans and we are part of the environment. There are over 6 billion of us on Earth. Our actions have a big impact on the environment. Everyone has to start from ourselves. Our children are our future and also the future of Mother Earth, so my project would be ECO KIDS. It is very important that each and every parent can teach the kids how to protect the Earth form the home. Some examples would be recycling cans and bottles instead of just throwing them away, using cloth bags at the grocery store and to always have one on hand. Replace regular light bulbs with their energy efficient counterparts. Grow an organic garden. Lessen the use of cars and walk or bike instead. Reuse clothing. Unplug chargers, when they are not charging. These are few examples that can change your life and the lives of your children.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
I am proud I represent my lovely country the Slovak Republic. I love my country and I know everyone who will come here will fall in love with this peaceful country. The capital Bratislava is a cosmopolitan city with a rich cultural life. Slovakia’s cities and folk culture reflect a long and varied history. People in Slovakia are friendly, kind-hearted, sociable and always well tuned. I love people who live here. On surface is a land of rugged mountains whose steep slopes attract climbers, hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. Long valleys are guarded by romantic castles. I hope Slovakia will stay green, full of forests, mountains and valleys.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I can describe my childhood and growing years as the best time in my life. It was a time full of games, smiling, fresh air and nature. I always spent my free time in the village where my grandparents lived. I used to spend a lot of time playing games with my brother and sister with nature. We gathered mushrooms with my father. He taught us how to make special tools/toys from wood. I also had my own sheep called Basko. I took care of him and fed him. I grew up in a warm-hearted and caring family. I love my family and I would never change them for anything in the world.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
My parents always taught me to be share and be kind and pleasant to others. “You can get just what you give.” For my whole life I’ve been living by this phrase. I grew up with my older sister and my younger brother. We get something every time, especially sweets and we share them equally. So the lesson which I have learned is to share- to share your smile, to share your love, to share everything that can make other people happy.

What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment is when my whole family meet together. We used to meet at least three times a year; mostly it was on the most important holidays like Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Easter. It was crazy, because in one house, in one room, around one table was about 20 people. Cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents etc. It was crazy, but in the best sense of the word. We were laughing all the time, we were talking about what we experienced. We always brought gifts for others. I loved these moments and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
I would love to be the one who protects Mother Earth and the one who could teach others about sustainable energy which is so important these days. We need people to get to know what they can do to protect nature, to protect the Earth, not just for now and for us, but for our future and the future of our children. From a young age, I have been aware of my responsibility to protect the environment. When I was younger I joined activities like tree planting, recycling cans and newspapers. I also volunteer to pick-up litter on special days. I also used to speak to audiences about what young people can do for the environment. I think that each person has to start with thinking and together we can do something big. I think that people should live in harmony with nature.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
I would like to promote higher use of renewable energy sources in Slovakia. The goal of the strategy is to achieve competitive energetics providing safe, reliable and efficient delivery of all forms of energy at affordable prices with the aim to protect the customer, environment and support sustainable developments and provide security of supply and technical safety.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
