Prince Harry to receive humanitarian award in Washington DC

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry is to receive a special award from the Atlantic Council in Washington DC in May. The royal will accept the Atlantic Council Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership on behalf of himself and brother Prince William for their work to help wounded servicemen.

A spokesperson for St. James’s Palace said Prince Harry is honoured to be receiving the prize.

“Prince Harry will use the award to pay tribute to British and American veterans’ charities for their achievements in helping to rehabilitate wounded servicemen and women and to reintegrate those who have served in the Armed Forces into civilian life,” the palace rep said.

Prince Harry, who received some military training in the US, has been active in campaigning for military charities such as Walking With The Wounded.

The Atlantic Council is a think tank founded in 1961 to promote international co-operation on the most pressing issues facing the world today.

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and the ex-NATO Supreme Allied Commander General Wesley Clark are among the dignitaries on The Atlantic Council’s board of directors.

Prince Harry ran in the London Marathon on Sunday and later suggested that his brother Prince William and Kate Middleton will compete in the sporting event in 2013.
