Margot Robbie: Neighbours refused to kill off Donna

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie says ‘Neighbours’ bosses refused to kill off her character in case things “didn’t work out” for her in the US.
The 29-year-old actress shot to fame on the Australian soap when she starred as aspiring fashion designer Donna Freedman from 2008 to 2011 before swapping Melbourne for Hollywood, but the soap’s bosses wanted to keep the part open for her potential return.
She said: “I told them I was going to move to America and then I asked if they would kill me off in like a really big dramatic way.
“They said ‘no’ because, you know, ‘If things don’t work out in America, we want you to be able to come back and play the role again.’ So, my character also moved to America, incidentally.
“I guess she’s still there because I haven’t been back on the show.”
Margot learnt an “incredible discipline” on the show, and says there was “no time to mess up” because the soap is filmed so quickly.
Speaking on YouTube series ‘Hot Ones’, she added: “You have to be word-perfect, and they’re switching as you act, so if you don’t hit your mark, or if you aren’t word-perfect, and they’re shooting it so quickly, there’s really no time to mess up.
“You just learn an incredible discipline and you can work really, really fast. You’re just really conscious of everybody else’s jobs.”
Margot recently admitted she thought ‘Neighbours’ would be the height of her success.
She said: “I didn’t think there was higher than that for me.”
The ‘Birds of Prey’ actress – who was born and raised in Queensland – shot to fame previously admitted producers weren’t too impressed with her strong accent when she first started on set.
She said: “I am a Queenslander, and my accent was so Australian that ‘Neighbours’ hired a dialect coach to make me sound less Australian.
“So that was all part of the process of moving to America. Before that the idea of being in Hollywood, I did think you had to be born into it or had to know someone in the industry.”
