Helen Mirren: I’m uncomfortable as a sex symbol
Helen Mirren has said that she feels “undeserving” of her sex symbol status. The 66-year-old Arthur actress said that she saw nothing “remarkable” in being lusted after and speculated that admirers were most attracted to the strength of her personality.
“I’m not sure I understand the sex symbol talk,” she told The Mirror. “I’m an admirer of beauty and sexiness and I don’t think I’m that kind of a woman.
“And often when men talk about sexiness it’s just about t*ts and legs – and what’s so remarkable about that?
“Of course, it’s flattering to be perceived as having some sort of sex appeal, but in my case I think it’s my force of personality. It’s not a very comfortable thing to have to try and live up to, to be honest. And actually I don’t try and live up to it.”
Mirren added that she still has plenty of issues with her body and would never object to cosmetic surgery.
“Bits of my body are all right, but bits of me are horrible,” she claimed. “To be honest, anything from the waist down I don’t really like… I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want to make themselves feel happy.”
Mirren previously stressed that she feels no need to be sexy in her 60s.
