X Factor’s Lascel Wood in care since age four due to mum’s mental illness

X Factor sensation Lascel Wood lived with 25 foster families during his childhood because his ­mother was unable to look after him. On last night’s show, music student Lascel, 20, sailed through to the boot-camp stage after ­wowing ­judges with a stunning performance of Use Somebody by rockers Kings of Leon. But his early life was tough and he was put into care at four due to mum Pauline’s condition.

Lascel, from Bath, said: “Mum had an uncontrollable illness, so when I was a kid, there were lots of ups and downs… but it has made me stronger.”

Pauline’s problem is now under control and last night she went on stage to say how proud she was.

But Lascel still has no contact with his dad. “He’s never been around,” he said.
