Nicola Coughlan gets ‘followed around’ during Belfast trips

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Coughlan often gets “followed around” by groups of teenage girls when she goes back to Belfast.
The 32-year-old actress plays Clare Devlin in the hit Channel Four series ‘Derry Girls’, which tells the story of four teenage girls in 1990s Northern Ireland during the Troubles, and following the show’s huge success she is tracked around the country’s capital by teen super-fans keen to see what she is buying.
She told Grazia magazine: “When I’m in Belfast I get followed around a lot. Especially if I’m with another Derry Girl.
“It’s often groups of teenage girls who will follow us around the shops.”
Galway-born Nicola has been told by fans of the show that her Derry accent has “got better” as the series has progressed, despite the show not being filmed in sequence.
She added: “People are really friendly. Although sometimes people give me advice on my Derry accent.
“Some have said it wasn’t that good in the first episode, but it got better as the series went along.
“But everything wasn’t filmed in sequence, so I’m like, ‘Oh, OK – thanks so much.’
“There were people online saying the accents were terrible but my co-stars Saoirse [Jackson] and Jamie [Donnell] are actually from Derry.”
The blonde beauty will often enjoy a drink with her co-stars – including Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn – after a busy day of filming, after they became “so close” both on and off screen.
She added: “After a day on set, the five of us Derry Girls would head back to the apartment block in Belfast.
“We’d drink some wine and set the world to rights. It was lovely and I think that’s why we’ve become so close.”
