Coronation Street pay tribute to Sue Nicholls on 40th anniversary

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ have paid tribute to the “wonderful” Sue Nicholls 40 years after she first appeared on the soap.
A post on the ITV show’s YouTube channel treated fans to a flashback to Sue’s debut as Audrey Roberts, who was then known as Audrey Potter, on April 16th 1979.
The description read: “We have a very special anniversary today! 40 years since Audrey Roberts (played by the truly wonderful Sue Nicholls) first graced the cobbles.
“As part of these celebrations, let’s take a look back at Audrey’s (not exactly welcome to all) first appearance. (sic)”
In the scene, Audrey makes an unwelcome appearance at her daughter Gail’s (Helen Worth) celebrations after her husband-to-be Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten) popped the question.
After an unenthusiastic greeting from Gail, Audrey said: “Oh God, one of these days you will sound glad to see me.”
Looking to Brian, she said: “Well, you could’ve done worse, love, much worse. At least he’s got all his teeth.”
And Audrey seems to be keen to hook up herself, asking Gail if she has sorted a man for her.
She said: “I’m fine, love as ever. I’m looking forward to tonight. Have you got a fella for me?”
Sue’s 40th anniversary on ‘Corrie’ comes just weeks after several other cobbles stars celebrated milestones on the soap.
Jack P. Shepherd celebrated 19 years of playing David Platt – Audrey’s grandson – by thanking the ‘Corrie’ writers for the “great storylines” over the years.
He wrote: “Today April 2nd I have been playing David Platt on @coronationstreet for 19 years, thank you for the great storylines and memories. (sic)”
Just days later, Brooke Vincent admitted she couldn’t believe it had been 15 years since she first played Sophie Webster.
She wrote: “F I F T E E N Year’s ago today was my first day at playing “Sophie Webster” They cut off all my hair and gave me a fringe Who would have thought all these years later I would still be there, making a nuisance of myself How time flys!! (sic)”
And Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, celebrated 13 years in Weatherfield in the same week.
