Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “shocked” with their table tennis skills (04.04.13). The royal couple showed off their sporting sides during a doubles game at the Donald Dewar Centre in Drumchapel, Scotland, and while both impressed with their ability, it was Catherine – who was known as Kate Middleton before her marriage – who was singled out by their opponents as the better player.
Yaser Razouk, 14, who played against the couple with a teammate from Drumchapel Table Tennis Club, said: “I was shocked, William thought he was better than Kate. I think Kate was looking a bit better, but you could see they had played before.
“They are important people so it was good for the club to have them here.”
During their Scottish tour, the couple – who are titled the Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland – also visited the Emirates Arena in Glasgow and met Clyde, the spiky-haired mascot for the city’s Commonwealth Games, who took a particular interest in the duchess’ pregnancy.
Glasgow 2014 spokeswoman Samantha Jones said: “Before the visit Clyde was asking if he could pat the bump, but we told him no.
“When he was signalling to her about the baby, she just laughed and said ‘Oh yes, the baby. Thank you very much’.”
