Miss Earth Haiti 2012 Chersonese Archange´s interview for MissEarth.tv
What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
My environmental project is to promote eco consumption in order to make our food healthier and discourage at all costs the use of fertilizers in our agriculture and livestock. Organic farming can be defined as a compendium of technical agriculture which usually exclude the use of synthetic products such as fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, etc., with the aim of preserving the environment, maintain or increase the fertility of the soil and provide food with all its natural properties.
What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
One must be always proud of one’s country. I´ll focus on showing the world that despite being a small country lashed by tragedies, we pride in being the first black country to obtain its independence, as well as the hospitality and humility that surrounds our people. We have beautiful coasts and an enviable tropical climate.
Describe your childhood/growing years:
My childhood was something quiet. I lived with my parents until I was 12 years and then they went to live in the USA so I got to stay with my older sister who at that time lived in a neighborhood called Douyard which was a little dangerous. This was the reason we have to move to another neighborhood which was a little calmer so that it will not affect my growth and education.
What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Living with my sister I learned to value and respect my space more. I learned that my life is mine and I am the only responsible for it. Things had changed eversince my mother had to leave and I learned to manage my independence since then and attained what we can call a somewhat premature adulthood.
What is your most memorable moment?
For me it was a time that was a little difficult and sad. On the day that my parents went to live to USA, I had to stay a single night by myself in my house to wait for my sister til thenext day and some guys tried to rape me. But hearing my cries and desperation, someone came to my rescue and I was able to avoid that tragedy from happening. I´ll forever remember that person, who saved me and because of whom I am alive this day.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My environmental project is to promote eco consumption in order to make our food healthier and discourage at all costs the use of fertilizers in our agriculture and livestock. Organic farming can be defined as a compendium of technical agriculture which usually exclude the use of synthetic products such as fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, etc., with the aim of preserving the environment, maintain or increase the fertility of the soil and provide food with all its natural properties.
What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
Ensure that tourism remains an important engine of the economy and income generator without causing the deterioration of the natural resources on which it sits, promote environmental sustainability, maintaining biological and cultural diversity, reducing the over- consumption of natural resources of the coast and to enjoy a management integrated as an essential element for its conservation.
