Billy Bob Thornton’s daughter Amanda Brumfield given 20-year prison sentence
Billy Bob Thornton’s estranged daughter Amanda Brumfield was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment on Thursday following her conviction for aggravated manslaughter.
In June, Brumfield was found guilty of the manslaughter of 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia, who died while under her care in October 2008.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Brumfield now faces 20 year behind bars after the courts denied her request for a new trial.
“I miss Olivia just as much as anybody does,” Brumfield said, in a statement given shortly after the sentencing.
While Brumfield’s defence had maintained Olivia died from hitting her head while climbing out of her playpen, the prosecution argued the fall could not have caused the skull fracture which led to the child’s death.
Olivia’s mother Heather Murphy told press the sentence was “more than I expected”, but added she felt “justice has been served”.
Brumfield is Thornton’s daughter with his first wife, Melissa Lee Gatlin. After Brumfield’s arrest in 2009, Thornton’s rep said he and his daughter were estranged, and Thornton “has had no contact with her for quite some time.”
