John Legend predicts sexual misconduct allegations will hit music industry

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend expects there to be more sexual harassment allegations in the music industry.
The ‘All of Me’ hitmaker – who has 23-month-old daughter Luna with pregnant wife Chrissy Teigen – believes other female artists will be following in the footsteps of Kesha, who accused her former producer Dr. Luke of sexual misconduct, in speaking out about men in positions of power allegedly taking advantage of them.
He said: “There will probably be more. My manager, she’s told me stories about sexual harassment, dealing with record execs taking liberties, even when they are pretty powerful. Men who have power need to do a lot better than this.”
The 39-year-old singer admitted he had heard “jokes” about disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein – who has been accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women – and is “glad” the truth has come out, even though the producer has denied many of the claims against him.
He told the Sunday Times magazine: “Sexism is a problem in every industry, but now people are learning there are consequences.
“Harvey [Weinstein] knew he shouldn’t have been doing [what he was doing], he just thought he could get away with it. We all heard jokes like, ‘You’ve got to sleep with Harvey to get a part.’ I never knew if it was based on truth or rumour. I’m glad we know now.”
The ‘Ordinary People’ singer wants men to be better educated about women’s issues and thinks they should be more “outraged” by incidents of sexism.
He said: “We witness casual sexism so much and don’t get outraged about it enough. Saying ‘it’s harmless’ or ‘boys will be boys’ makes it worse.”
Although Luna is very young, John is hopeful she will grow up to meet guys who are “respectful” and listen to her.
He said: “I want her to be healthy and confident and in control of her own decisions. I don’t want her ever to feel pressured to do anything she doesn’t want to. Hopefully she’ll meet and date guys who are respectful and emotionally intelligent. But she’s got plenty of time before that is a concern!”
