Sir David Jason: ‘It will be very hard when daughter does to university’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Jason admits it will be “hard” when his daughter goes off to university.
The 79-year-old actor has 18-year-old Sophie Mae with his wife Gill Hinchcliffe has admitted that watching his “little” girl grow up has been a wonderful journey but it is going to be hard when she is “no longer” around when she leaves home to start the next stage of her education.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, David said: “[She] wants to go out with boys. Disgusting. Actually, her boyfriend is very nice, but it takes some getting used to, I must say. Soon, she’ll be off to university, and that’s even harder. It’s more difficult later in life because you’re more set in your ways. You get used to having a little person around. Then, suddenly she’s a young woman and soon she’ll no longer be there … very hard.”
The ‘Only Fools and Horses’ star will next be seen in Gold series ‘David Jason: Planes, Trains & Automobiles’ which will see him embark on an all-American road trip around the West Coast of the USA indulging in his passion for planes, trains and automobiles.
He added: “I always wanted to fly. When I was in theatre, I used to go up on Dunstable Downs on my day off to watch the gliders, to get away from it all.
“I’m very fortunate that everything’s in full working order, thank you very much. While I’ve got my health and fitness, I’m available … except for panto of course. Too bloody much like hard work. There are certain things your mind wants to do that your body can’t.”
David admits the characters he has portrayed in his long television career have usually been far from his own personality because he always wanted to be “someone else”.
The ‘Open All Hours’ said: “If you want to be an actor you’ve got to burn with it, like how some people want to be a monk, not for the glamour and fame. I always wanted to be wanted to be somebody else. All my work’s been disguise really, hiding behind the character. Psychologists would have had a bloody field day.”
